Here, Richard Ventura, vice president PDSA, Sony Electronics, sits down to discuss the company’s commitment to sustainability in 2023.
Commercial Integrator: Tell us why Sony Professional Display Solutions is passionate about sustainability.
Richard Ventura: This is a core to Sony. Sony Group is implementing a long-term environmental plan called “Road to Zero”, which aims to reduce our environmental footprint to zero by 2050. As part of this, we established the “Green Management 2025” environmental medium-term targets that will take effect from FY2021 through FY2025.
In aim to realize a future filled with emotion, Sony Corporation is accelerating efforts such as the introduction of recycled plastics, the reduction of product power consumption, the elimination of plastic from the packaging of newly-designed small products and the introduction of renewable energy.
CI: Can you give us an example of concrete efforts your company is making to be more sustainable?
Ventura: From a technical perspective our focus on reducing power consumption on our newest generation CLED portfolio, decreasing overall carbon footprint with our Pro Bravia lineup, the eco dashboard on our Pro Bravia displays, our full array local dimming of the lighting on the Pro Bravia displays which reduces power consumption, the use of Sorplas on many of existing and all of our upcoming Pro Bravia displays, focus on reduction of e-waste by eliminating components in our boxes.
From a packaging perspective reduction of ink on outside boxes, focusing on zero polysterene foam where possible, cutting CO2 emissions by focusing on smaller/lighter packaging.
CI: What sustainability effort is Sony Professional Display Solutions planning to implement in the next year?
Ventura: Continued focus on lower power consumption, continued reduction of ink usage, reduction of extra non used parts in the boxes, etc.
CI: Can you give a long-term overview of your sustainability plan?
Ventura: Our road to zero sums everything up nicely Sony Group Portal – Sony Global Environmental Plan.
Additionally, “Road to Zero” is Sony’s global environmental plan, striving to achieve a zero environmental footprint throughout the life cycle of our products and business activities. Road to Zero sets a series of specific goals based on four environmental Perspectives and six product Life Cycle stages.
