In this exclusive interview with Kramer AV executives, Commercial Integrator explores the latest trends in AV-over-IP and its application. Travis Cawthorne, director, products and training, and Art Weeks, product manager, both of Kramer AV, shed light on what they’re seeing from the vantage point of an industry-leading vendor.
“Different end-customer requirements are really driving some of this more adoption in AV-over-IP because we’re able to handle just about anything,” Weeks observes. As examples, he cites odd-sized displays, custom LEDs, and ultra-wide 21:9 and 32:9 displays. “And one of the beauties of AV-over-IP is, especially with our SDVoE solution, we don’t really care what the format is. We can feed that custom resolution into an encoder and then output that custom resolution at the decoder here to that ultra-wide display.”
Cawthorne, meanwhile, underlines the IT management benefits of AV-over-IP systems. “As we continue to move into the IT space, those types of people managing those systems want to be able to have access into those, and really just make their AV deployment [as] efficient as possible,” he says.
Insights from Kramer AV on AV-over-IP
Later in the conversation, Cawthorne and Weeks touch on the following:
- How AV-over-IP is starting to be deployed in a far greater number of environments, expanding dramatically from its inception in large video-distribution projects.
- The rise of compressed solutions, which demonstrate a high enough quality to suit rigorous applications. Accordingly, resistance to AV-over-IP over quality-centric concerns has all but vanished. “The technology’s been proven,” Weeks declares.
- Why integrators should be thinking about power consumption, heat dissipation and the long-term cost of their deployments.
- How Kramer AV is continuing to innovate to meet evolving needs of integrators and end users alike.
