TASCAM Expands DA-6400 Multitrack Digital Recorder with Firmware Update

Published: April 2, 2018

TASCAM’s DA-6400 multitrack digital recorder has been given a recent upgrade with the new version 2.0 firmware update adding several new functions and enhancements.

In addition to a variety of performance and functionality improvements, the version 2.0 update of the DA-6400 incorporates Theater Play mode and Playlist support.[related]

The new Theater Play function “enables DA-6400 users to set start and end marker points for individual takes,” according to the TASCAM press release.

“These markers allow theater operators to trigger multi-channel events manually, or via external control, after which the system automatically proceeds to the next scheduled cue and waits patiently in standby mode,” according to the company announcement. This feature enables venue designers to combine audio, lighting and scenery cues into a single controllable experience.

Using Playlist mode, users “can define regions and nondestructively set playback ranges within individual multitrack takes and create dynamic scenarios whereby these regions are played in various orders and/or multiple times each,” according to the TASCAM press release.

“This makes creating complex performances from chains of events quick and intuitive,” according to the company announcement.

Other new functions in the DA-6400 version 2.0 firmware update include playback of WAV files in 32-bit PCM and 32-bit floating formats, sorting functions that allow the take list to be arranged in take timecode or take name order and mDNS support so that network connection with the DA-6400 can be achieved from Mac OS and Telnet or VNC and FTP apps that support mDNS.

“Version 2.0 firmware takes the DA-6400 multitrack digital recorder to a new level and shows TASCAM’s ongoing commitment to upgrades,” said Paul Youngblood, director of product marketing for TASCAM, in the company press release.

“The new playlist function and, especially, the powerful new Theater Play feature deliver a world of new creative applications for theatrical, amusement park, and live concert playback.”

More New TASCAM Multichannel Interfaces Added

Earlier this year, TASCAM announced two new Dante-enabled multichannel interfaces it’s added to its lineup. The ML-32D and ML-16D multichannel interfaces installs into a variety of systems using these solutions.

The ML-32D is a 32-channel product and the ML-16D is a 16-channel product. Both can be used in combination with analog and digital products, including the Tascam DA-6400, the SS-R250N and the SS-CDR250R multichannel recorders.
