Miller, a past president of InfoComm, is joined in PSNI by two other past InfoComm presidents. He believes as InfoComm has grown in recent years, it’s forgotten to some degree about the importance of its integrators, particularly in the U.S., which Miller describes as the “mature” part of InfoComm as it continues to look for expansion opportunities around the world.
“I don’t think it’s unusual some things fall through the cracks when you’re growing that rapidly,” says Miller, who noted he’s “proud” of Labuskes for his speech.
Miller called Labuskes’ unscripted remarks “one of his best 15-minute presentations I’ve ever heard.”
What Are Next Steps?
The 2013 strategic plan included several goals for InfoComm and for the industry as a whole, with the idea of creating exceptional experiences the most discussed of those targets. Labuskes talked about the idea in his address at the PSNI breakfast, noting “creating expectional experience is about helping your clients understand what it can be.”
Labuskes stands behind the 2013 plan but knows the 2016 version will be different and that he’ll be more involved with its development since he’s been on the job for much longer this time around. On that point, Labuskes has been making the rounds at InfoComm 2015, appearing at as many events and talking with key players in as many groups as possible.
PSNI members will be involved “on multiple layers” with the development of InfoComm’s 2016 strategic plan, says Miller. He’s glad Labuskes expressed his concerns about the splintering of InfoComm and PSNI and thinks that honesty will help turn things around.
“It’s OK to admit you’re not all things to all people and it’s incumbent on us to give him feedback on what we need from InfoComm to be successful and relevant in the future,” says Miller.
On day 2 of InfoComm 2015 alone, Labuskes gave his PSNI speech, talked at the Women in AV breakfast, attended the AV Nation AV Tweetup and swapped stories with USAV member companies at their event after the trade show closed for the day, among myriad other appearances.
Labuskes did deliver some good news to PSNI members, noting InfoComm 2015 is on track to have the highest attendance in the show’s history. That would mean topping last year’s total of more than 38,000 attendees.
We should have some idea of the final number for 2015 by the end of the day Friday.
