“Once we get a deployment, it tends to go viral,” says Campbell. “We have greater scalability from sitting on an IP network and it’s also easier to add new features.”
Still, he wishes the integrator had had time to do a site survey. That would’ve allowed for an expanded wall, although that could come later.
“The time we had was the time we had,” he says. “I wish we had another week.”
Andershock had visions of a 3×2 wall, but ran into a couple of issues before making that a reality. First, commercial-grade monitors are more expensive, and the budget was limited, so he had to search for alternatives. On top of that, Peerless Mounts didn’t have spacers to accommodate the 32-inch monitors he planned to use, so Andershock cut his own spacers out of sheet aluminum.
“We usually order our equipment and have it pre-configured,” says Andershock.
The job was about three hours from River City’s office, so they had to plan their days very carefully, says Andershock. After the system was installed, he gave “cursory training” on site, but noted, “You have to put your hands on it and see how it works.” That took a couple of weeks after the installation.
Andershock sees potential for similar installations elsewhere, noting he’s spoken with other agencies in the St. Louis area, where they’re building a real-time intelligence agency.
