Integrating Young Workers

One key with recent college graduates and young workers today, says Frierson, is “they have to feel very engaged.”

The younger generation, says Stewart, “has a diverse amount of interests and that’s expanded the data pools we have access to. You have to find the superstars, but they’re there. A lot of time, you don’t know what skill sets someone has until you have a conversation with them. That can help you find new ways to utilize them.”

Hebert emphasizes the need to be a good mentor and to ensure your company is “a learning organization.”

“Someone at the executive level has to have a passion for mentoring and be very good at it,” says Frierson.

“If your people know you’ll be more dedicated to develop them, they’ll be more loyal to you,” says Smith.

Changes To Service, Communication

A managed services offering has become a crucial piece of the puzzle for IT integrators.

“We know social media is changing technology, but we don’t know what that means for business practices,” says Stewart. People want “rapid access to value and profitability,” says Smith.

“Selling managed services to customers who weren’t aware of it used to be challenging,” says Frierson. “Now it’s going to the opposite extreme and customers want everything to be part of it.”

And, while landlines and traditional desk phones may eventually fade away, there will always be a need for people to connect and communicate.

“The device may change,” says Smith, “but the need to communicate is going to be around for a long time.”
