Integrator SWC Acquires ACT to Expand in Middle Tennessee

Published: January 12, 2022

Nashville, Tenn.-based systems integrator ACT, announces the company has been acquired by South Western Communications (SWC) of Newburgh, Ind., for undisclosed terms.

Founded by Joel Hill and Randy Mann, ACT is a full-service provider of access control, intrusion, video surveillance, fire/life-safety, A/V, commercial and residential security, home automation, home entertainment, advanced WiFi networks, assisted living technology and security, among other solutions.

SWC is a national provider of critical communications technology systems for the healthcare, education, commercial and corrections sectors. The company has had a presence in the Nashville market for more than 30 years. It currently employs more than 300 team members. The purchase of ACT will extend SWC’s services in the Middle Tennessee market.

“SWC continues to prioritize the acquisition of companies that provide adjacent technologies and market differentiation to the business,” says SWC President Todd Lucy. “These priorities led us to conversations with ACT, a recognized leader providing security, fire and life-safety solutions in the growing Middle Tennessee market. The combined company will offer our respective customers a consistent experience with a broader range of products and services.”

Both companies have a significant install base and a long history of performance to leverage following the acquisition. The combined company will offer best of breed critical communications, life safety, fire, and security products and services in healthcare, education, commercial and detention markets.

“When it came time to consider the transition and future of these relationships, SWC was one of our earliest considerations,” Mann says. “I couldn’t be more optimistic about the future for SWC and am confident our employees and clients are going to be very well cared for.”

“We wanted to find the best regional company that would value our employees’ dedication and professionalism and treat our customers with the care and commitment that we have provided them for many years,” comments Hill. “In my years as a partner at ACT, many of these people have become my friends and family. We’re excited to make this transition to SWC, as we are certain they will continue to be treated as such.”

SWC is a Koch Enterprises company. SWC previously expanded in 2009 with the acquisition of Richardson Technology Systems, and again in 2021 with the purchase of All Systems.
