The sound system in the room featured two Turbosound Flex Arrays with five cabinets per side, four subwoofer cabinets, and five front fills. A Midas Pro 2 is the main console for front of house. I was told by Porche’ the system could put out 130db with no distortion. Being a lighting programmer, the last thing I am paying attention to is how good the room sounds. I will say the system is extremely clear.
The environmental projection was controlled with an Arkaos Pro media server. This allowed the content to be controlled through the lighting console. The church had hundreds of stock video files on hand. This made it much easier to design the lighting then go back to Arkaos and choose what would fit my design. The room has almost 150 LED lighting fixtures. This is really a selling factor when you can walk in the room and know you don’t have to change a lamp in anything. The room is using 31 Chroma-Q Inspire RGBW as their house lighting so changing the atmosphere of the room is seamless.

When designing the lighting for the show, I was able to listen to the songs ahead of time from The Digital Age. The band has a pretty wide variety of contemporary Christian music so the show could range from very slow worshipful songs to very upbeat songs to ignite the crowd.
When I program, I try to use the lighting rig to accent what the band is doing. Some songs had very punchy drum hits; I like to bring those out through the rig. It was a challenge to do this in the short time frame we had to work with but in the end I was able to achieve the overall design I was looking for. Since this is a worship environment and not a rock concert, it was important not to create distractions. It was one of my top priorities to keep the lighting and projection locked onto what the band is doing.
Being able to work with the church’s staff really made the show come together much smoother. Steven Haney and Jason Bellon, Trinity’s technical directors, provided me with all the information about the show ahead of time. Working with churches can sometimes be very difficult but, in the end, when everyone on a team is working towards the same goal, it becomes much easier.
