Shure recently joined hands with WInnForum, thus continuing its professional networking and product innovation in the audio industry.
WInnForum is also known as Wireless Innovation Forum. According to Shure, it focuses on standards and advancing technologies so as better to utilize spectrum and promote the continued development of wireless communications systems. It also comprises equipment vendors, subsystem vendors, software developers, technology developers, communication service providers, research and engineering organizations, academic institutions, government users and regulators.
By joining WInnForum, Shure hopes to spur the development of new technologies that would allow wireless microphones to get access to free or affordable spectrum and satisfy the audio industry’s growing needs.
“Spectrum is an issue for many customers, and we are looking at ways to help unlock additional spectrum for our industry in innovative ways,” said Prakash Moorut, senior director, spectrum and regulatory affairs, Shure. “We’re committed to being the leading advocate for our industry in the wireless spectrum arena. [So] it is important that we have long-term access to spectrum.”
Shure has also joined 5G-MAG (5G Media Action Group), an association bridging the media with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industries.
5G-MAG influences standards and deployments, while providing a framework for collaboration for implementing 5G technology for media production and distribution. Shure plans to leverage its longstanding experience in developing wireless microphones to participate in discussions about 5G solutions for audio transmission.
5G-MAG, a cross-industry organization, gathers stakeholders across the media and ICT sectors. Those include content and service providers, network operators, technology solution suppliers, equipment manufacturers, R&D organizations, regulators and policymakers. As a result, Shure will get a 360-degree view of how 5G fits into the professional audio landscape.
“We’d like to better understand the industry’s views about 5G-based Programme Making and Special Events,” Moorut added. “By collaborating with this diverse group, we can help advance the exploration of 5G for wireless audio.”
