For this week’s edition of Flashback Friday, go back in time to take a look at what technologies were frightening commercial integrators just one year ago. Are you more comfortable with these technologies today? What have you learned in the past year? And… what’s frightening you now? Leave us a comment and tell us.

There are all kinds of new, innovative and eye-popping ways to do your job in today’s AV, IT and security systems integration world.

As in any other profession, some approaches are better than others and some “cool” ways of doing business don’t catch on with the masses.

In the theme of Halloween we ask, what are some of the “spooky” technologies that keep installers and manufacturers up at night in a pool of their own sweat? These aren’t bad solutions, but rather ones integrators find scary and intimidating for various reasons.

For example:

  • HDMI because it’s tough to work with?
  • High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) because it’s confusing?
  • Skype because you’re afraid it’s going to cannibalize your business?
  • 3D because it never lived up to the hype but manufacturers continue to build products with it?

Let’s take a look at a few more. Feel free to add your own suggestions.
